The Alternative Technology Association (ATA) is a not for profit community organisation that has been promoting renewable energy, energy efficiency and water conservation in the home for over 25 years. The organisation provides services to over 5000 members across Australia and New Zealand. ATA promotes to the wider community through its quarterly magazines (ReNew and Sanctuary) read by over 100,000 readers.    

 

 

ATA advocates in both the government and industry arena, promoting access to good building design, water conservation and renewable energy technologies, as well as continual improvement of the technology, information and products needed to change the way we live. The ATA is a growing organisation in an increasingly high profile field.  

 

Position Name: Water Projects and Policy Manager
Employment Basis: Permanent part time
Number of Hours per Week: 22.5 hours, (3 days per week) hours working flexible
Remuneration: Pro rata based on $62,000 plus 9% super contribution
Reports to:  CEO

 

Responsibilities

The Alternative Technology Association (ATA) has been helping people live more sustainably in their homes for over 25 years. We have a strong focus on domestic water conservation, rain and stormwater harvesting, and greywater reuse. Our strength in projects and policy comes from the practical experience of our members and stakeholders. This position is responsible for managing ATA’s water related projects and advocating policy positions on water. 


Specific Duties

The specific duties of this role vary over time and depend largely on what projects are currently being implemented. At various times the role may require field work; after hours presentations or office based research and submission writing. Specific duties include:

  • Work as part of a team to identify areas of research
  • Plan projects and make funding applications
  • Manage projects including overseeing volunteers and staff if required
  • Write project reports
  • Work as part of a team to develop policy positions
  • Participate in government and industry processes and represent ATA policy objectives
  • Present information sessions and workshops on water
  • Develop detailed practical knowledge on domestic water conservation and water harvesting
  • Provide advice to ATA staff, members and stakeholders on water issues
  • Work with other ATA staff to develop skills and knowledge on water issues 

 

Required skills and qualifications

The ideal candidate will have demonstrated knowledge and experience in the following areas:

 

  • Practical and technical knowledge of domestic water issues related to conservation, harvesting and reuse.
  • Project management and ability to prioritise between a range of activities
  • Research skills and an ability to design practical research projects
  • Experience in developing funding applications.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills
  • Supportive approach to working with other staff to maximise overall outcomes for the organisation
  • A passion for water conservation, and engaging people in the process
