Job Description

Undertakes research, development and maintenance of varied types of telecommunications equipment and information technology that facilitate the operation of the Department’s radio and satellite communications systems. Provides specialist advice, support and training to departmental staff.

Selection Criteria

Applicants should address the following four criteria. These should be addressed in no more than a total of four pages.

ESSENTIAL

1. Current Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) certification (Level 4) or equivalent experience (level 3).

2. Some (Level 3) or considerable (level 4) experience and sound knowledge of telecommunications and information technology.

3. Demonstrated ability to apply logic, clear and innovative thinking, good investigative and problem solving skills to complex problems, and recommend and implement achievable solutions and improvements.

4. Sound oral and written communication skills, including the ability to explain telecommunications and information technology concepts in a manner that is easily understood.

The following criteria will be assessed at some stage during the selection process:

ESSENTIAL

5. Demonstrated ability to work to prescribed schedules and comply with accepted procedures.

6. Understanding of occupational, health and safety, and equity and diversity principles and practices.

7. Class “C” WA motor drivers licence.

DESIRABLE

8. Experience in and knowledge of radio and satellite communications systems.

9. Ability to undertake country travel.

10. First Aid Certificate.

11. Approved Restricted Electrical Workers Licence or in the process of obtaining certification.

12. Approved Cabling Licence or in the process of obtaining certification
