Provide to the Department and its clients a comprehensive water assessment and monitoring service by managing projects and leading a multi-disciplinary group engaged in water monitoring activities, throughout the Central West Region. Advise the Department’s Water Services business group, on water resource assessment, monitoring, management and use issues and contribute to regional planning and policy issues.

Selection Criteria:
Selection Criterion 1 – Detailed knowledge, or the ability to quickly acquire knowledge, of the techniques, methods and procedures used in the collection of hydrometric information and in the storage, analysis and presentation of that information.
Selection Criterion 2 –Ability to undertake or quickly acquire the necessary skills for the administration of the HYDSTRA database and to contribute to State-wide data administration through evaluation and practical testing of associated hydrometric systems and interfaces
Selection Criterion 3 – Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing and cooperate with peers, supervisors and the public.
Selection Criterion 4 – Demonstrated ability to actively contribute as a member of a team and to work independently, applying logical decision making processes to effectively complete work assignments
Responsibilities relating to the Selection Criteria:
• Ensure water monitoring field operations are undertaken in compliance with agreed standards and work practices.
• Supervise the processing of data to defined operational procedures.
• Instigate and encourage uptake of new technology to improve efficiency within the water monitoring group
• Develop and update work practices and procedures that contribute to the maintenance of the group’s ISO_9001:2000 quality accreditation.
• Contribute to the development and implementation of new procedures, innovative technologies and systems as Departmental requirements change and new technology evolves.
• Administer surface water, groundwater and aquatic biology data bases at a regional level.
• Implement system upgrades as requested by data management group, Indooroopilly.
• Actively contribute to system administration and development and provide regional training as required.
• Ensure associated data bases and interfaces are functional and current
• Provide training coaching and mentoring to enhance delivery of water monitoring activities.
• Provide detailed written communication/reports in respect to water resource monitoring.
• Provide written or verbal advice that contributes to effective water resource planning outcomes.
• Make a conscious decision to involve, engage and work with others by adopting flexible work styles.
• Provide quality advice and information in both oral and written form to the Department and other agencies in relation to water monitoring and natural resource management and planning.
