Volunteers urgently needed in anti-poaching research in South Africa to save rhinos!
Experience the wilds of Africa and assist researchers on our Wildlife Monitoring Expedition in Greater Kruger National Park. Spend two weeks exploring the African savannah and assist with important observational research on lions, elephants, giraffe, black rhinos and many other iconic African species as well as other conservation activities. As part of a team of volunteers you will be given a unique opportunity to experience this amazing country like no other tourist. You will be involved in critical research in one of the most spectacular locations on the planet, Greater Kruger National Park. Staying in a bush camp, you will experience wildlife first-hand as you stay on the African savannah. This is home to the “Big Five” - lion, rhino, leopard, elephant and buffalo and you could see them all!We are currently undertaking critical research of all species BIG and small that will contribute to establishing best practice management models for private game reserves across Southern Africa. The setting for this unforgettable experience is Balule Wildlife Reserve within the Greater Kruger National Park and forming part of the now Great Limpopo Transfrontier Park. The transfrontier park links Kruger National Park with the Gonarezhou National Park in Zimbabwe, and with the Limpopo National Park in Mozambique and is absolutely critical in species survival. A typical day on the project will consist of volunteers undertaking game drives either one in the early morning and/or in late afternoon, as well as the routine camp duties. Volunteers will also assist in compiling a database of information through a consistent and standardised data capture process.
Program Dates:
Program contribution is $AUD2150 and includes all meals, accommodation, transport whilst on the project, wildlife monitoring training and experienced guides. You also receive a 12-month membership to Conservation Volunteers, Australia’s leading environmental volunteering organisation, and a 12-month membership to the Australian Geographic Society, including a subscription to the exquisite Australian Geographic Journal. Please note price does not include international airfares, passport or other personal expenses.
