Australia’s leading resource for environmental employment, education and events
Gain valuable fieldwork experience and new qualifications as
an intern with GVI. Interns are needed for 20+ week periods and
internships are available on a variety of GVI expeditions within the
fields of terrestrial and marine wildlife research and community
development.
The internship starts by participating in a GVI expedition gaining
essential qualifications and skills plus valuable field work
experience. The second phase of the internship is a work placement on
GVI's expedition or with one of our partners, where interns will gain
additional skills and qualifications as well as invaluable work
experience and training. Interns may be offered employment with GVI or
our partners after successful completion.
Interns receive thorough training at the beginning of the program
alongside normal expedition members and this can include leadership
courses, wildlife survey techniques, GVI's introduction to TEFL (Teach
English as a Foreign Language) or the full 100-hour TEFL. First Aid
& CPR training is provided along with all health and safety
protocols relevant to the expedition and college credits may also be
available.
During the work placement phase the intern gains additional
qualifications such as Off-Site Safety Management, PADI Divemaster,
local language lessons, boat handling training and / or TEFL courses
and continues to build on their knowledge and training. Interns will
shadow staff, gain further work experience and develop their practical
field skills throughout the program.
