This role will assist in the management of marine and terrestrial protected areas to conserve natural and cultural resources. You will also take a proactive educative role in environmental management by promoting awareness, appreciation and understanding of conservation values to park users. You will also facilitate the use of protected areas for recreational, cultural and scientific purposes as specified in the Nature Conservation Act 1992, Recreation Areas Management Act 2006 and Marine Parks Act 2004.

Job details

• Manage, operate and maintain a wide variety of agency vessels, plant and equipment.
• Perform natural and cultural resource tasks including:  planned burns, wildfire suppression, weed and feral animal control and marine animal strandings.
• Perform general administrative duties including obtaining quotes for goods and materials, raising requisitions and orders, and purchasing.
• Supervise and train subordinate staff, students and volunteers etc.
• Perform general public contact duties including answering enquiries, providing advice and undertake park and vessel patrols.
• Perform enforcement tasks including detection of breaches of the Marine Parks Act 2004, Nature Conservation Act 1992, permit compliance and assisting senior staff with investigations.

Skills, knowledge and experience you need

• Manage projects and lead or support others in a team.
• Knowledge of or ability to acquire knowledge of the Marine Parks Act 2004, Nature Conservation Act 1992 and possess specialist skills relating to the operation and maintenance of vessels and associated equipment.
• Good communication, liaison and negotiation skills and an ability to demonstrate a client focus.
• Good time management skills and ability to demonstrate tact and ethical behaviour.

Mandatory Requirements

A driver’s licence and be prepared to obtain a manual licence if required.

$43986 - $48293
