This role will prepare, co-ordinate and assist in the formulation of plans, systems and Regional programs for, or relating to the management of Queensland's protected areas and wildlife.

Job details

  • Develop review and update plans and related processes for, and relating to regional protected area and wildlife management.
  • Provide technical support to the Cape York Peninsula Regional Scientific and Cultural Advisory Committees and the Cape York Peninsula Regional Advisory Committee to enable their informed advice to the Minister relating to Areas of International Conservation Significance.
  • Assist with the delivery of the program to identify and declare Areas of International Conservation Significance under the Cape York Peninsula Heritage Act 2007 within the context of the broader World Heritage and National Heritage nomination processes for appropriate areas of Cape York Peninsula.
  • Assist in the coordination, review and maintenance of regional management systems to improve service delivery, particularly in a protected area planning and joint management context.
  • Provide high level advice and assistance to Regional staff and other relevant personnel in relation to planning for the protection and management of protected areas and wildlife. Assist with staff training programs.
  • Coordinate and conduct regional and local consultation with Government agencies, Local Government, industry groups, professional organisations, advisory committees, conservation organisations, rural groups, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander groups and community groups in relation to protected area and wildlife planning projects and natural and cultural values assessment.
  • Assist in establishing and maintaining a high level of effective liaison, consultation and negotiation relevant to planning projects (including the identification of Areas of International Conservation Significance) with Service personnel, government agencies, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander groups, stakeholders and interest groups.
