Volunteer Coordinator, Bear Research, Ecuador

Bears Ecuador

Reference #: ENCooFeb09

Volunteer Coordinator required for ground-breaking research project in Ecuador investigating habits of spectacled bears.  You will be responsible for small groups of volunteers tracking radio signals from wild Andean bears fitted with radio or GPS collars.  This unpaid volunteer position is from the beginning of April to the end of September.  Food and accommodation provided.

We´re looking for a responsible volunteer coordinator with good people management skills and experience.  You´ll have a genuine interest in wildlife research and the environment.  You must be fit and healthy – the position involves lots of walking, sometimes at altitude and in variable weather conditions, in the mountains and cloudforests of northern Ecuador.  Fluent English and basic Spanish language skills are necessary.

Bear sightings are rare and special experiences.  Volunteer sightings are much more common – you will live and work with the volunteers, so the successful volunteer coordinator will probably be a “people person”.  This is a fantastic opportunity to be part of a well-respected scientific project in beautiful cloudforest and mountain scenery and will make an impressive addition to your c.v.
