1.Background to CERES
CERES is an environmental community organisation in East Brunswick, Melbourne. CERES is located on 4 hectares of land on the banks of the Merri Creek and has become an icon of locally based education and action on environmental and social-justice issues.
Projects encompassed within CERES include local and community projects (eg, Community Gardens and Chook Group, Bicycle Users Group, Bread- making Group), educational programs for schools ( both environmental and cultural ), accredited training and work-experience programs, non-profit income generating programs (café and nursery), recreational activities and courses for adults and children, celebratory festivals ( including the Kingfisher Festival, Harvest Festival ) and a volunteer program.
CERES projects and staff are organized into 4 Teams: Education and Training Team, Habitat Team, Community and Governance Team and the Enterprise Team. Supporting the day to day running and management of staff within the teams are Area Managers who comprise the Managers Working Group. There are 4 Team Leaders, working across each of the 4 teams and who are ultimately accountable to the CERES Management Committee.
2.Background to and Aim of the Position
Provide a range of cleaning services to ensure the professional appearance and safety of the CERES buildings and infrastructure.
3.Duties and Responsibilities
1.Implement green cleaning practices demonstrating their effectiveness to the general public;
2. Attend to the day to day cleaning of CERES Environment Park Offices, toilets, public hire spaces and education spaces;
3. Maintain the professional appearance of the CERES offices, public and guest facilities and surrounds;
4. Ensure effective and positive communication with colleagues and clients;
5. Mentor an inexperienced cleaner.
6. Report any significant matters arising in the course of duties to the supervisor.
7. Comply with CERES management practices and policies and relevant legislation on Occupational health & Safety & Equal Opportunity.
OHS
All staff are expected to be aware of OHS risks associated with their area of work and take responsibility for ensuring their own safety, and that of fellow workers
Staff should report OHS concerns to the appointed OHS Officer
Staff should work with the OHS Officer to ensure a safe and comfortable work environment is maintained.
4.Period of Appointment
The position is an on going position, with a three month review following initial appointment.
5.Funding Source
The position is funded through the Site Team.
6.Accountability
This position sits within the Habitat Team, reporting to the Maintenance Coordinator and is ultimately accountable to the CERES Board.
Staff Reviews are held annually.
7.Skills, Experience, and Qualities Important to Position (Selection Criteria)
8.Hours of Work, Salary and Conditions
This position is Saturday, Sunday, Monday and Tuesday 4 days/ week x 2.5 hours/ morning,
Work hours are 7.00 -9.30am
This position begins at $16.10/hr, to be reviewed at 6-12 monthly intervals
