About this role: The Biosecurity Inspector at Goondiwindi works autonomously, but as part of a team, providing confidence to markets and the community that key plant Biosecurity and agricultural and veterinary chemical and contaminant risks are suitably managed by applying key skills and regulation in the areas of Plant Biosecurity and Chemical Use and Food Safety (CUFS). The role includes responding to Biosecurity emergencies of significance to Queensland, as directed.

The duties/tasks/responsibilities required of this job are:
• Performing the regulatory role of a Biosecurity Inspector by:
o Working as required in specific project activities within Plant Biosecurity program, namely – Plant health certification services, Plant Biosecurity surveillance; and the CUFS program – namely residues in plant and animal products and responsible Agvet chemical use;
o Ensure duties are undertaken according to standard policies, procedures and guidelines;
• Actively participate and show leadership as a member of Biosecurity teams; and relevant DPI&F, inter government, industry and community project teams that contribute to the achievement of Biosecurity Queensland priorities.
• Develop good working relationships with other government departments, industry organisations and the community, identify issues relevant to Biosecurity Queensland, and report them through line management.
• Ensure local clients are aware of all relevant Plant Biosecurity & CUFS issues by using a variety of methods that include extension methodology and adult learning principles.
• Provide accurate and relevant advice and reports in a timely manner.
• Undertake other roles as directed in emergency situations.
Some of the current priorities of this job are:
• Undertaking duties of the District Biosecurity Inspector in the area of responsibility.
• Managing the activities presented by plant pests and diseases, contaminants and misuse of agricultural and veterinary chemicals to Queensland’s primary industry production.
• Participating in and contributing to the functions and operations of all the programs of Biosecurity Queensland, particularly Plant Biosecurity and Chemical Use & Food Safety.
• Participate in emergency response activities as required.

• Understanding of and commitment to the principles and practices of employment equity, ethical conduct and workplace health and safety.
Mandatory Qualification required to do this job is:
• Associate Diploma or equivalent as determined by the Director-General, in a relevant field to the responsibilities of the position.
