Assist with management of Protected Areas and Marine Parks to conserve natural and cultural resources; facilitate use for recreational, educational, cultural and scientific purpose consistent with the Nature Conservation Act, Queensland Marine Parks Act and Great Barrier Reef Marine Parks Act and promote an awareness, understanding and appreciation of conservation values to users.

 

Job details

  • Perform general estate development duties such as the construction and maintenance of walking tracks, fencing and recreational facilities, moorings and reef protection markers.
  • Perform natural and cultural resource management duties such as fire management, feral animal weed control programs, marine observation and monitoring.
  • Support the Agency in maintaining close liaison with the Traditional Owners of the area.
  • Provide guidance and support in the management of cultural heritage values relating to the Traditional Owners of the area.
  • Implement emergency response procedures including natural disaster contingency plans, wildfire response procedures, search and rescue procedures, medical emergency procedures, vessel groundings, oil spills procedures and response to marine animal strandings.
  • Participate in Region wide vessel patrols, work programs, surveillance and compliance tasks, including tasks undertaken in conjunction with other Agencies and aboard other Agency vessels.

 

Job skill requirement:

1. Ability or potential to undertake infrastructure maintenance and natural and cultural resource management and provide support. (Critical)  
2. Understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture with sound knowledge of issues that relate directly to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. (Critical) 
3. Ability or potential to participate and support others in a team. (Critical)

4. Ability to demonstrate a client focus and to act ethically. (Highly desirable). 

5. Good communication and time management skills.  (Highly desirable).

 

Mandatory Requirements

You must have an unrestricted driver’s licence and be prepared to obtain a manual licence if required.

Salary

Salary per annum: $39632 - $42188
Salary per fortnight: $1519.10 - $1617.10
