To assist in the management of protected areas to conserve natural and cultural resources and to take a proactive educative role in environmental management by promoting awareness, appreciation and understanding of conservation values to park users. The role will also facilitate the use of protected areas for recreational, cultural and scientific purposes as specified in the Nature Conservation Act 1992, Recreation Areas Management Act 2006, Marine Parks Act 2004 and Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Act 1975.

Job details

  • Lead and manage a team of Rangers and other District staff.
  • Report on the implementation of annual work schedules and budget.
  • Develop and implement plans and programs including, wildlife management, pest animal plans and pest plant management programs.
  • Establish and maintain effective relationships with stakeholders including neighbouring landholders, other government departments and local Indigenous communities.
  • Plan, co-ordinate and implement public interpretative and educative programs.
  • Plan, develop and implement infrastructure development and maintenance projects.
  • Conduct patrols and surveillance tasks to enforce provisions of relevant legislation. Operate and maintain a wide variety of departmental plant and equipment.
  • Undertake administrative tasks such as purchasing of goods, services and materials.
  • Plan and co-ordinate contingency responses such as search and rescue operations and wildfire response.

Job Skill Requirement

It is critical that you can demonstrate sound abilities in the following skills and knowledge areas:

  • Management – people, resources, time and project
  • Communication, liaison and negotiation skills and skills in providing advice;
  • Knowledge of or the ability to rapidly acquire knowledge of relevant environmental legislation such as the Nature Conservation Act 1992, Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Act 1975, the Marine Park Act 1982 and Recreation Area Management Act 2006.
  • Natural and cultural resource management especially in the areas of:

o Fire, weed and feral animal management;
o Built infrastructure management; and
o Cultural resource management.
o Development and implementation of annual works programs, capital works and budgets.

It is highly desirable that you can demonstrate sound abilities in the following skills and knowledge areas:

  • Project Management.

Mandatory Requirements

You must have a driver’s licence and be prepared to obtain a manual licence if required.
It is highly desirable that the successful applicant will have a coxswains ticket.

Salary

Salary per annum: $49569 - $54534
Salary per fortnight: $1900.00 - $2090.30
