This role will undertake protected area and forest estate development, maintenance and protection duties, often in remote locations requiring a high level of physical fitness as well as natural environment awareness, general wildlife management and public contact duties. Over the period of employment in this position you will be required to stay in remote camping accommodation provided by the Agency up to a maximum of 4 nights per week (Monday to Thursday). You will also perform law enforcement duties and may assist in investigations on occasion.

Job details

• Perform general duties such as answering general wildlife enquiries from visitors and issuing permits.
• Perform general estate development and maintenance duties such as construction and maintenance of walking tracks, fencing and recreational facilities on protected areas.
• Perform estate protection duties such as assisting in fire management, feral animal and weed control programs.
• Perform law enforcement duties and assist Rangers in investigations.
• Perform administrative duties such as banking, collecting goods and obtaining quotes for goods, services and materials, using computer programs including spreadsheets, word processing, internet and intranet.
• Lead project teams and provide supervision for work experience students, volunteers and other staff on occasion.

Skills, knowledge and experience you need

To do this role successfully, it is critical that you demonstrate good ability, skills, and knowledge in the following areas:

• Construction (where a tradesperson is not required) – to construct and maintain infrastructure such as walking tracks, fencing and recreational facilities.
• General operation, repair and maintenance skills to maintain and repair small plant and equipment (where a tradesperson is not required)
• Communication
• Time management
• Project management

It is highly desirable that you have the ability or potential to rapidly acquire the ability to perform general estate development and maintenance and protection duties.

Mandatory Requirements

You must have a driver’s licence and be prepared to obtain a manual licence if required.

Salary

Salary per annum: $39632 - $42188
Salary per fortnight: $1519.10 - $1617.10
