Reference #: QLD/EN8001/08 This role will manage the EPA’s contribution to the high regarded Ecosystem Health Monitoring Program in South East Queensland. The role will work in conjunction with project partners to ensuring that data are collected, analyses conducted and reports written at a high quality and within tight time frames. The role will produce the annual report for estuaries and Moreton Bay in South East Queensland.

- Provide high level scientific and strategic advice and information on the results of waterways monitoring and assessment research programs, projects or initiatives to ensure that Freshwater and Marine Sciences, the EPA and other relevant government agencies are able to utilise research results, information and data for environmental planning, resource management, infrastructure development and associated purposes
- Lead and supervise the development and maintenance of cooperative scientific, technical, business and commercial relationships with key stakeholders (state, national and international public sector, business, scientific and education organisations and the community at large) in relation to waterways assessment and monitoring
- Ensure both cost-effective research and development and accurate reporting on critical environmental trends and outcomes relating to waterways monitoring and assessment and associated areas.
- Represent the EPA at a senior level in complex professional and scientific forums and on inter-departmental and inter-government committees in relation to waterways monitoring and assessment research and associated areas and in negotiations with key external organisations involved in these areas.
Publish information gained from waterways research, monitoring and assessment that is relevant to and in accordance with EPA priorities and planning
- Manage the financial, capital, intellectual property and human resources of allocated research programs, projects or initiatives in clear compliance with relevant legislation and Government EPA and Service Area policies, priorities and approved practice.
Skills, knowledge and experience you need
To do this role successfully, it is critical that you demonstrate high level ability, skills, and knowledge in the following areas:
- Ability to lead and/or participate and support others in a multi-disciplinary team to ensure successful delivery of products and services in an environment conducive to high individual performance, teamwork and ethical behaviour and decision-making.
- Ability to rapidly acquire a thorough knowledge of legislation, standards and guidelines related to the scientific assessment of aquatic ecosystems and water quality together with associated high-level scientific knowledge in these areas.
- Ability to successfully initiate and implement change and continuous improvement in the work environment.
It would be highly desirable if it you also had -
- High level analytical problem solving and research skills in complex issues and in project managing or developing policies, strategies and options to address those issues.
- High level written and oral communication skills particularly with respect to the compilation and negotiation of complex submissions and reports together with a high level of interpersonal skills, including the ability to liaise, consult and negotiate with senior staff from the EPA/QPWS and external agencies e.g. Knowledge or the ability to rapidly acquire knowledge of Queensland legislation such as Environmental Protection Act 1994 and experience in applying it in within a public sector setting
Mandatory Qualifications
To be considered for appointment you must have a degree or higher qualification which, in the opinion of the Director-General, Environmental Protection Agency is relevant to the position.
Salary
Salary per annum: $81140 - $87005
Salary per fortnight: $3110.10 - $3334.90
