To lead, coordinate and monitor the regional delivery of vegetation management assessment activities and the decision-making role for clearing applications under the Vegetation Management Act 1999 and the Integrated Planning Act 1997. Advising landholders about vegetation management including requirements for applications for clearing and to promote the role of native vegetation in sustainable land management and appropriate management strategies that enhance that role.

Selection Criteria:

Selection Criterion 1 – Demonstrated high level interpersonal and communication skills and ability to liaise with a broad range of staff and customers, combined with an ability to effectively brief senior staff on key issues.
Selection Criterion 2 – Demonstrated practical knowledge of the role and management of native vegetation in the maintenance of ecosystem processes, biological diversity and sustainable agricultural production.
Selection Criterion 3 –  Demonstrated high level knowledge of the Queensland Vegetation Management framework and sound understanding of contemporary issues, policies and guidelines relevant to vegetation management, and proven ability in developing strategic and operational advice.
Selection Criterion 4 – Proven leadership (with emphasis on team dynamics) skills, project management skills and well-developed organisational skills with an ability to meet timeframes and achieve results.

Responsibilities relating to the Selection Criteria:

•    To lead and coordinate regional staff and associated multi-disciplinary teams to ensure the delivery of vegetation management assessment functions across the region through:
o    Monitoring and enhancing staff performance and development to ensure a high level of staff competence and effectiveness;
o    Leading the centre vegetation management team to ensure effective and efficient team performance;
o    Monitoring, evaluating and reporting on outputs to ensure that the desired results are achieved within timeframes; and
o    Participating in the recruitment, selection and induction of staff.
•    To provide technical and policy advice in relation to vegetation management assessment activities.
•    Prepare submissions and briefs and contribute to the development of legislation and associated policy, work practices and guidelines on complex vegetation management issues.
•    Collaborate, liaise and negotiate with industry and community organisations to increase community involvement and appreciation of natural resources management particularly in relation to sustainable vegetation management in the region.
•    Provide advice to the Manager, Land & Vegetation Management & Use on direction, policy application and implementation regionally for vegetation management assessment activities.
•    Communicate positively the rationale for new directions and strategies to staff, peers and customers.
•    Participate constructively in regional and State-wide teams to plan and coordinate implementation of new directions, strategies and initiatives.

Salary

Salary per annum:    $72515 - $77584
Salary per fortnight:    $2779.50 - $2973.80
