Job Description
Level 1
At a professional level and with immediate supervision Environmental Officers (Compliance) are officers established within the Department to:
• enhance the Department’s compliance capability and support;
• undertake compliance inspections, audits and enforcement activities under the legislation administered by the Department; and
• assist in the development and delivery of the Department’s compliance strategy and programs.
Level 2
At an experienced professional level, under general direction and using independent judgement, Environmental Officers (Compliance) are officers established within the Department to:
• enhance the Department’s compliance capability and support;
• undertake compliance inspections, audits and enforcement activities under the legislation administered by the Department; and
• assist in the development and delivery of the Department’s compliance strategy and programs.
Selection Criteria
Level 1
Applicants should address the following three criteria. These should be addressed in no more than three pages.
Note: All criteria are essential unless specified otherwise.
ESSENTIAL
1. Ability to undertake compliance inspections and audits to achieve appropriate outcomes.
2. Ability to research and analyse technical issues and solve problems.
3. Knowledge of or the ability to rapidly acquire knowledge of and apply the legislation administered by the Department.
The following criteria will be assessed at some stage during the selection process:
ESSENTIAL
4. Good oral communication and interpersonal skills and an ability to lead and work in a team situation.
5. Good writing skills including the ability to write reports, business letters.
6. A relevant degree from a recognised university or approved equivalent qualification.
7. Understanding of occupational safety and health and equity and diversity principles and practices.
8. Current “C” class motor vehicle driver’s licence.
9. Physical ability to undertake site inspections of premises, possibly including regional and remote locations.
10. Permanent employment will be conditional upon provision of a National Police (Clearance) Certificate.
DESIRABLE
11. Knowledge of legislation and issues pertaining to environmental/conservation management, particularly related to Western Australia.

1. Demonstrated experience in undertaking compliance inspections and audits to achieve appropriate outcomes.
2. Demonstrated ability to research and analyse technical issues and solve problems.
3. Sound knowledge of and demonstrated ability to apply relevant legislation.
