This position is based in Albany, which is located in the South Coast Region of Western Australia. Albany has scenic views of some of the world’s most beautiful naturally protected waterways, Princess royal Harbor and King George Sound. Magnificent coastal and island scenery, a holiday atmosphere and all the facilities for a great lifestyle are features of this region. The region is known for its active art scene, well-established shopping precincts, cafes, restaurants and a wide range of outdoor and sporting activities.

Job Description
At a professional level and with immediate supervision:

• Applies environmental legislation, policies, codes of practice and regulatory instruments to manage a range of industry regulation issues in the region, including enforcement.
• Advises and liaises with industry, local government, government departments and community groups on industry regulation issues.
• Investigates (including field work) and advises on the environmental performance/ compliance and incident complaints of specific activities within the industry regulation program.
• Prepares reports, briefing notes and relevant documentation associated with industry regulation issues.

Selection Criteria
Applicants should address the following 3 criteria. These should be addressed in no more than a total of 3 pages.

ESSENTIAL

1. Broad knowledge of current environmental issues and the management and regulation of environmental issues.
2. Good interpersonal skills and an ability to work and interact in a team situation.
3. Understanding of legislation, guidelines, policies, procedures and processes associated with environmental management issues.

The following criteria will be assessed at some stage during the selection process:

ESSENTIAL

4. Well developed oral and written communication skills including the use of computer software (Word, Excel etc) for report writing and data analysis.
5. Ability to think critically, analyse and research issues and formulate appropriate recommendations, having an understanding of the principles of research and problem solving.
6. A relevant degree from a recognized university or approved equivalent qualification, preferably in physical science, engineering (chemical, environmental), environmental health or related discipline.
7. Understanding of occupational safety and health and equity and diversity principles and practices.
8. Current “C” class motor vehicle driver’s licence.

DESIRABLE

9. Knowledge of legislation and issues pertaining to industry regulation, particularly related to Western Australia.

Salary

Specified Calling Level 1, $49,616 - $68,027 pa PSGA
