The successful applicant will undertake research to develop and deliver education initiatives to support sustainable natural resource management. The project officer will also undertake research of best practice education models that support behaviour change and high level outcomes.

Your Key Duties

• Develop project activities and lead collection of field data on acidification, liming, carbon sequestration and associated greenhouse gas fluxes.
• Lead scientific research, data analysis and interpretation relating to acidification, liming, carbon sequestration and greenhouse gas fluxes from acidic soil.
• Organise, plan, collect, collate and interpret peer-reviewed literature and reports relating to acidification processes, carbon and nitrogen cycling.
• Liaise and collaborate with modellers working on greenhouse gases and carbon and nitrogen dynamics following acidification and amelioration of acidic soils.
• Prepare reports, conference papers, and peer-reviewed scientific publications about the greenhouse gas research for landholders, government and industry, and other scientists as appropriate.
• Prepare funding applications, conference and workshop papers
• Professionally represent the department at national and international forums.
• Develop effective communication with NRW and other scientists involved with the greenhouse gas and climate research and simulation modelling.
• Liaise and collaborate with other scientists at the State, national and international levels.
• Ensure that all unit activities fully support employment equity, ethical practice and workplace health and safety.

 

Are You the Right Person for the Job?

To be considered for this position, you must present to us your demonstrated knowledge, skills, ability and experience in the following areas:

• Chemical and biophysical processes of soil acidification and reversal by liming on carbon sequestration and greenhouse gases in Australian soils.
• Acidification processes, carbon and nitrogen cycling as evidenced by peer-reviewed publications.
• Key models used for simulating greenhouse gases and impacts on the Australian and international economy.
• Written and verbal communication and ability to work effectively in multi-disciplinary teams.

Salary

Salary per annum: $24778 - $27059
Salary per fortnight: $949.76 - $1037.16
