Provide a water monitoring service for the Department’s water planning group by undertaking technical activities to Departmental specifications and standards, analysing data and providing natural resource information to internal and external natural resource managers and planners.

Selection Criteria:
Selection Criterion 1 - Knowledge of the techniques, methods and procedures used in the collection of surface water, ground water and water quality information, and the storage, analysis and presentation of that information
Selection Criterion 2 - Ability to prioritise, plan and undertake water monitoring activities
Selection Criterion 3 - Knowledge of natural resource management and planning including the water monitoring components of water resource plans and resource operational plans
Selection Criterion 4 - Ability to carry out preliminary hydrologic analyses and to provide advice and recommendations for effective water resource management including assessment of flow conditions for water harvesting
Selection Criterion 5 - Ability to actively contribute as a member of a team, and to communicate effectively in oral and written forms with staff, managers, clients and community based groups
Responsibilities relating to the Selection Criteria:
• Maintaining gauging station infrastructure
• Operating data loggers and associated sensors
• Processing of recorded data
• Measuring stream flow including flood measurements
• Prioritise work to meet the requirements of the quality management system and to satisfy the data needs of the Department and clients
• Plan all work so that it is conducted in an efficient and effective manner
• Undertake or supervise construction activities related to monitoring stations
• Carry out the responsibilities of the position and assist supervisors in other tasks as required
• Be familiar with relevant sections of Water Act 2000
• Awareness of water resource planning issues within the operational area
• Conduct additional monitoring as required by management for resource operational plans
• Carry out hydrographic duties related to derivation of missing records, extrapolation of rating curves, and utilise programs such as Flosum, and Hydstra sub programs such as Hyextrem, Hylowfl (low flow analysis), and provide ARIs utilising Log Pearson plots produced by Hylp3
• Conduct assessment of surface water and ground water trends as required by management
• Provide guidance and assistance to licensing staff and management in terms of pumping opportunities related to water harvesting
• Assess flow conditions and provide detailed information to water users who may be accessing water under specified flow conditions
• Be a responsible and contributing member of the water monitoring team
