Australian Life Cycle Assessment Society (ALCAS)


Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) has emerged in recent years as a vital tool in meeting the challenges of climate change, peak oil, drought, pollution and increasing competition for land resources. In particular LCA helps businesses respond positively to these issues by getting on the front foot with regard to supply chain and product stewardship issues.

The conference will run over three days with sector specific themes including carbon, water, buildings, waste management, energy and agriculture. Abstracts for papers and posters are invited on the following subjects

  • Life cycle assessment
  • LCA business opportunities and challenges
  • Ecological footprints
  • Life cycle management
  • Energy and greenhouse life cycle studies
  • Materials flow analysis
  • Life cycle inventory initiatives
  • Triple bottom line accounting approaches
  • Input / output analysis
  • Life cycle costing
  • Extended producer responsibility

    Submissions discussing the relationship of LCA to corporate social responsibility, environmental reporting, sustainability commitments, target setting, sustainability share indexes, green marketing, regulation trends, government expenditure, and environmentally preferable purchase specifications are also encouraged.

    Students are encouraged to submit papers and posters for consideration with a prize for the best submission from a student author. Please advise on your abstract that you are submitting as a student.

    29 August 2008 (for peer review process)

    30 September 2008 (for non peer review process)
