CARBON LEADERSHIP FORUM - Future Directions - 1 Day, 26 March 2010

KEYNOTE:  The Hon Greg Hunt - Federal Shadow Minister for Climate Change

Implementation of Government policy relating to Carbon Management will be the single largest change to our economy in Australia's history.  The approach Australia takes to the management of Carbon will have a significant impact on business and to our society.  While the Coalition and Government disagree on how carbon should be managed, the one thing they do agree on is that change is necessary.  This Forum will explore the latest policy and regulatory initiatives, and highlight recent experiences by industry and business relating to the management of carbon and climate change.  Issues to be examined will include:

  • The Coalition's Climate Change Policy (followed by questions)
  • Victorian Government's Policy on Climate Change
  • COP15 Copenhagen to COP16, the Copenhagen Accord, and the way forward
  • Current status on EU, NZ and US emissions trading schemes - how could these international schemes link to an Australian scheme
  • National Greenhouse & Energy Reporting System (NGERs) - Outcomes of the first reporting period; including repeated errors found in reports; data submitted by industry against NGERs legislative requirements and NGER Measurement Determinations; data omissions...
