Carbon Farming & Trading

The Carbon Farming and Trading is a practical and up-to-date training
program for those developing carbon abatement projects in Australia.
Facilitated by industry experts Australian Carbon Traders, participants
will learn the latest approaches to developing and implementing offset
projects under the governments’ Carbon Farming Initiative. The session
will present the economic opportunities for farmers, forest growers and
landholders to help the environment and reduce carbon pollution.

Participants will:

  • Gain knowledge on the Carbon Farming Initiative and the practicalities of implementing abatement projects
  • Practical ways to reduce agricultural emissions through changes to
    land management, while increasing production and sequestering carbon in
    the landscape.
  • Navigate implementation issues of land based abatement projects
  • Utilise the latest online tools provided government for mapping, calculating abatement and assessing reafforestation projects
  • Apply carbon trading mechanics within the Australian context

Course Structure

1 Day - Classroom Based This training session is co-delivered with industry specialist Ben Keogh, Manager of the Australian Carbon Traders. Ben’s background is in carbon sequestration, environmental management, whole farm planning, native forestry and agriculture production. Ben also has extensive experience in the design and implementation of carbon sequestration projects and schemes. Ben has been involved in carbon sequestration projects for CVGA, 2006 Commonwealth Games Tree Planting Project, WPGA, various councils and is the Director of Landcare's national CarbonSMART project.

Course Requirements

Participants should be competent at working in the Microsoft Windows desktop environment, including a basic knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
