Australia’s leading resource for environmental employment, education and events
Water sensitive urban design, green roofs and walls, and designing and maintaining produce gardens are three emerging and important niche areas for horticulturists and landscape designers. Yet, until now, these units of study were absent from any training package.
Swinburne University of Technology TAFE has developed a new Diploma of Sustainable Landscape Design, which incorporates these subject areas into a landscape design course like no other. Its emphasis on sustainability ensures that its graduates create landscapes that benefit the environment, are economically viable, and are positive social experiences.
And to ensure that graduates have building experience, Swinburne developed another unit specifically for landscape designers – ‘Oversee sustainable landscape construction techniques’ – to ensure they have an understanding of and hands-on experience in various landscape construction techniques.
The two year part-time course is offered during the evening with mostly online tutorials and lectures, and several day-long workshops each semester, with a variety of teachers who are specialists in their fields.
