The Master of Social Science (Environment and Planning) program (and its shorter versions, the Graduate Diploma in Environment and Planning and the Graduate Certificate in Environment and Planning) are situated in the School of Social Science and Planning at RMIT city campus. The School also runs undergraduate courses in Environment, Environment/Environmental Science and Planning.
The program is designed both for professional development and for entry into the rapidly expanding environment and planning fields. The program offers two streams - Environment and Planning. Students may choose either stream or a combination of courses from both streams. Planning stream This stream is accredited by the Planning Institute of Australia enabling students to become qualified in this area of considerable job opportunities. This stream examines new statutory planning techniques, planning and environmental law, strategic planning, sustainable city planning, planning history and theory, public policy development, rural and regional planning, and a range of courses examining current planning issues.Environment stream This stream focuses on environmental policy development and management. The stream emphasises natural resource policy and management, the concept of sustainability, globalisation, environmental policy at international, national, state and local levels, environmental management in industry, environmental effects statements, energy management, parks policy and management, water policy, and business-related environmental courses.
