The Guide to Environmental Careers in Australia is now available.

The Environmental Jobs Network (EJN) has produced the first Guide to Environmental Careers in Australia. Conducted in conjunction with the School of Social Science and Planning at RMIT, and funded by the Australian Government Department of the Environment and Heritage, the project arose in response to a lack of information regarding environmental employment and the scope of environmental careers.

The Guide describes a range of environmental jobs which outline the type of activities that environmental practitioners perform and the knowledge and skills required by employers. The Guide also presents career advice and information regarding future trends of environmental employment.

As part of EJN's research into environmental careers in Australia an on-line survey of environmental employees was conducted over three weeks in September and October 2004. More than 600 environmental practitioners provided information about their positions, work activities, qualifications and skills. The survey respondents provided helpful advice for those trying to find environmental employment. Additionally, selected employers were interviewed in-depth to get a better understanding of where the industry is likely to evolve in the short term.

The Guide provides essential assistance to those looking to get into, or to move within, environmental careers in Australia - for students, graduates, current employees and career advisors.
